On the Tapas Trail - Family Adventure in Spain

On Spain's quiet north-west coast, the region of Asturias is the perfect place for a family adventure holiday. The 'Costa Verde' or green coast is reminiscent of the Cornish coast, with its steep sided river valleys running into sandy bays. We start this active Spanish holiday with a splash as we paddle our kayaks along the River Deva. Our first 3 nights are from our hotel base with swimming pool, in the pretty area of Arenas de Cabrales, in the foothills of the Picos de Europa. This is just 1 hr drive from Santander. On our third day we are in the water again, canyoning down one the charming gorges. A short walk of 3 - 4 hours then brings us to the mountain refuge where we stay overnight, a great introductory walk for the kids, and very exciting! The second half of the week we spend at a hotel near the beach. Here, we have a day cycling and a day to just enjoy the sea, with the option to have a surfing lesson! Northern Spain is quick, easy and cheap to get to from the UK (and a whole away from the overcrowded southern costas), making it altogether rather appealing for a family adventure holiday.

Depending on the location you can enjoy thrilling activities as diverse as canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, canyoning, rock climbing, hydrospeed diving, snorkelling, surfing, windsurfing, mountain biking, horse riding, hiking and much more. We provide all the equipment and training for each activity, along with fully qualified guides and an experienced Explore leader to oversee the tour as a whole. You don’t need previous experience to try any of the activities, just a sense of adventure and a liking for adrenaline! Many of our multi-activity holidays are centre-based, where the group stays at the same accommodation throughout the trip and uses it as a base from which go out and experience all the activities the region has to offer. Others are tours which travel through a destination, enjoying the best of the activities along the way.

Set against the backdrop of the breath taking Pyrenees, the town of Sort is an ideal location for an activity holiday. We abseil down gorges, kayak and whitewater raft along rivers and explore the beautiful surroundings of Aigues Tortes National Park. There is time each day to relax at our comfortable hotel and enjoy its inviting swimming pool. All equipment is provided and no previous experience is necessary.
