Cycling Tours of Costa Blanca
Cycle Cheeky Cols of Costa Blanca 8 days
from £995 excl. flights* With its enviable year round climate, 300 days of sunshine and spectacularly mountainous interior, Spain's Costa Blanca has earned cult status amongst biking aficionados as one of the top short-haul cycling holiday escapes. Less then 30 kilometres from a bustling coastal scene, the quiet, unvisited mountain roads in the Marina Alta and Marina Baixa are a mecca for riders from all over Europe, providing limitless options of sinewy climbs, thrilling descents, awe-inspiring scenery with that perfect café con leche always awaiting in a traditional Spanish café or bar. After a day ride from Altea, we'll leave the coast and climb into the mountains on the snaking Puerto de Confrides, passing one of Spain's most spectacular villages, Guadalest. Tucked away amongst cherry orchards and ruined Moorish castles, we'll stay at a traditional rural village hostal for 2 nights, the perfect way to unwind and savour a very different side of the Costa Blanca. Exploring an array of famous Vuelta de Espana climbs, Puerto de Confrides (966m), Puerto Tudons (1020m), Port de Benifallin (1000m) Col de Rates (780m), we'll descend to civilisation and the lively port of Denia. Climbing over the local's pass, the Mongo, we conquer the unforgettable Alto Bernia (615m) to admire the stunning knife edge ridge before descending to the glittering coastline and Altea, way below. On this unique Costa Blanca journey, we ride through some pretty remote territory, on mainly quiet mountain roads with excellent surfaces, and visit a number of traditional villages en route. We'll also have the opportunity to spend time on the coast in the tasteful towns of Altea and Denia. Altea is a peaceful, traditional town considered one of the best preserved towns on the Mediterranean, the perfect place to while away an hour or two. Superb riding, excellent coastal and mountain accommodation, and a unique journey make this a dream break away from the bleaker days of winter. |
