Cycling Tours of Patagonia
Pedal Patagonia - Chile and Argentina 14 days
from £2395 excl. flights* This splendid 2-week adventure cycling holiday starts out from the picturesque Chilean lakeside town of Villarrica. From here, we explore the Chilean Lake District, cycling on gravel tracks and quiet backroads amongst snow-capped volcanoes and the weird and wonderful araucaria (monkey-puzzle) trees. Biking through the reserve areas of Conguillio and China Muerta, we experience an intriguing mix of landscape; from rugged volcanic lava flows to lush meadows, forest, picturesque farms and tumbling rivers that wouldn't be out of place in a high Alpine valley. After 3 days of cycling, we take a break from the bikes and hike up to the crater rim on Sollipulli Volcano, with views of the glacier in the crater and across to the nearby summits of Llaima (3125m) and Longuimay. Then, exploring southwards on our mountain bikes through the Huerquehue National Park, home of the Mapuche Indian people, we loop back to Lake Villarrica via more lakes, hot springs, waterfalls and traditional sheep farms. Cycling south into the Huilo-Huilo Reserve, we take a ferry ride on Lake Pirihueico and cross the Hua Hum Pass (659m) into Argentina. A day of riding on the singletrack trails around beautiful San Martin de los Andes provides a change of pace, before we recross the Andean chain, making the long descent back into Chile from the Tromen Pass (1105m). Unquestionably one of the best Latin American adventure cycling holidays! |
