Cultural attractions in Guyana

Surama

Surama is a small Amerindian community located in a small savannah in the heart of Guyana, surrounded by rainforest and forest-clad hills. It is a great place to explore the natural environment and wildlife of Guyana as well as learn more about the locals way of life. There are great trails from the village to observe the diverse birdlife found in the area, including a climb up Surama Mountain for spectacular views over the village and savannah to the Pakaraima Mountains. Another highlight of the area is the opportunity to take a dugout canoe trip on the Burro Burro River deep into the rainforest. Here you can observe birdlife and animals such as giant river Otters, tapir, tira and spider monkeys, try catching the famous Haimara fish and sleep out on hammocks in the rainforest.
