How to choose your trip to Peru
Peru is a hugely popular adventure travel destination. Most tours focus on Southern Peru (including Lima, Machu Picchu, the Amazon and Lake Titicaca) with a choice of whether or not to include the four day Inca Trail. Tours focusing on the classic or alternative Inca Trails are also available. The north of Peru is more off the beaten track, with the option of historical discovery or magnificent trekking in the Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash. Trips to Peru can also be combined with other South American highlights, either Along the Andes or across the continent on the Gringo Trail.

Land of the Incas - Peru Family Adventure 12 days
from £2195 excl. flights* This unique family adventure holiday in Peru combines all the essential main areas that you would wish to visit including the Amazon rainforest, Cusco, a day on the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca. We start out in the Amazon rainforest where we take a motorised canoe to our jungle lodge to see the magical wildlife in this pristine environment. We then fly to Cusco and descend to the Sacred Valley of the Incas where, from our comfortable accommodation, we visit the traditional Indian market at Pisac, an alpaca and weaving farm, and we can try our hand at some painting some pottery. The following day we have a cookery class learning a traditional way of cooking under hot stones and then we visit the picturesque saltpans at Maras. The adventure continues with the classic 1-day Inca Trail hike up to the Sun Gate, where we have our first glimpse of Machu Picchu. (Note: If Inca Trail permits are not available at the time of booking, an alternative walk or activity is arranged). After a night in the colourful town of Aguas Calientes (with the chance to try out the hot springs), we make an early morning return to the 'Lost City of the Incas' - Machu Picchu - and spend the morning here with a specialist guide. In the afternoon, we take the famous train ride back to Cusco. We visit the impressive Inca ruins that surround the Andean city of Cusco, either on an optional horse-back ride, or on foot. It's then onto Lake Titicaca and a boat ride to the Uros Islands where we overnight in a homestay before flying home from Juliaca...phew! This is one of the best family adventure holidays in Peru - if you are going to do it, you might as well do it right! |
