Following in the footsteps of the Inca civilisation, we trek along the famous mountain trail to Machu Picchu. We also explore the ancient capital of Cusco and visit the colourful Pisac Market. Stepping off the beaten track we experience traditional life with an overnight stay in a mountain village. Along the way there’s the opportunity for rafting and mountain biking in the Sacred Valley.

Inca Trail and Beyond Trek

The Inca Trail is recognised to be one of the world's greatest treks. Traversing the foothills of Peru's Cordillera Vilcabamba, provides an unforgettably dramatic trek to the fabulous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. Crossing three high passes, the established trek follows sections of stone pathway created by the Incas of South America four centuries ago and provides tremendous views of spectacular forested valleys and of the snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba. Our visit to Peru begins in ancient Inca capital of Cusco, high in the Andes. Here we have 2 days of sightseeing and acclimatisation including visits to the fortresses at Sacsayhuaman and at Ollantaytambo in the nearby Sacred Valley. We then set off on a picturesque trail around Huayanay Peak, passing through forest to alpine meadows and crossing the Ancascocha Pass (4625m) to reach the Inca Trail. On this memorable 3-day section of trail, we are likely to see few other trekkers. This short introduction also ensures that we are fit, well acclimatised and ready to enjoy one of the world's greatest walks. Once on the main trail, we encounter increasingly impressive Inca ruins such as Sayacmarca and Winay Huayna, before arriving at Machu Picchu, the world-famous lost city of the Incas. With blue glacial lakes, cloud forest, orchids, hummingbirds, magnificent Inca settlements and stone-paved trails, there is no other short trek in the world that offers such a variety of experiences. Teenage Inca Trail Trek

The Inca Trail is one of the world's greatest treks. Traversing the foothills of the mountains provides an unforgettably dramatic trek to the fabulous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. This family trek is tailored to enable keen and fit teenagers to experience this wonder of the modern world for themselves. Before our trek we have a couple of days to acclimatise and enjoy white-water rafting on the Urubamba River and a bike ride in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We also enjoy a visit to the colourful Pisac market. We then have four days walking on the Inca Trail from km 82 to the Sun Gate with the infamous views of Machu Picchu. This is a great trek for the family, crossing two high passes, with the high point at 4212m and camping for 3 nights at a maximum of 3680m. With blue glacial lakes, cloud forest, orchids, hummingbirds, magnificent Inca settlements and stone-paved trails, there is no other short trek in the world that offers such a variety of experiences. Following the trek we have a full day exploring the amazing Machu Picchu. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience for you and your children.

Arriving at the Sun Gate above the 15th Century Inca citadel of Machu Picchu after trekking the Inca Trail is one of the outstanding highlights of Latin America. The finest way to visit Machu Picchu is the trekking approach on the world famous Inca Trail. We begin this superb 8-day walking holiday in Peru with two vital acclimatisation days where we explore Cusco and the Sacred Valley - the former capital of both the Inca Empire and Spanish colonial government. In the company of like-mined travellers from around the world, we then set off on the Inca Trail, the renown ancient paved pathway of the Incas, trekking from the Urubamba River to a high point at the Warmiwanusca Pass (4200m), before descending to the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu. Averaging 10 kilometres of walking on each of 4 days, this brilliant fully supported, short trek, provides us with spectacular views of the peaks of the Cordillera Vilcabamba.
