Cycling Tours of French Alps

Cover more miles and explore more of the world's extraordinary landscapes and cultures on one of our Road Cycling or Mountain Biking holidays. Whether you fancy a Himalayan mountain bike challenge or an Alpine road riding blast in preparation for your next sportive, you will find what you are looking for amongst our global selection of biking adventures. With a track record that stretches back almost 30 years, KE Adventure Travel has more accumulated experience of adventure cycling holidays than any other tour operator. Our range of popular biking adventures now includes holidays as different as Jordan's Dead 2 Red ride, Lake Titicaca to Machu Picchu in Peru, the Rajasthan Road Cycling Tour in India and the classic trans-Alp Geneva to Nice road biking adventure. Our biking holidays are separated into 3 types (Fat Tyre, Semi-Slick and Road Cycling) on the basis of the terrain involved and the type of bike and tyres required. Additionally, each of our holidays is graded on a scale of 1 to 12, with 12 being the most challenging. Please refer to our grading system, which identifies each holiday's level of difficulty and enables you to compare the difficulty of two or more cycling holidays of the same type.

Geneva to Nice Cycle Tour

9 days       from  £1395 excl. flights*

This brilliant cycling holiday makes a true bike journey across the heart of the French Alps, via the 'Route des Grandes Alpes' and most certainly ranks as one of the world's great cycle tours. Taking in some of the most famous Tour de France climbs, such as the Galibier and the Iseran, we also cycle over the Cime de la Bonette (2802m), Europe's highest paved road. At the beginning and end of this memorable cycle ride, we deviate our cycling from the main route onto quiet country roads in Switzerland and France to avoid busy sections. To cycle around 16,000 metres of ascent and descent through the most spectacular scenery in the French Alps is a real challenge and this Alpine road cycling holiday is surely a 'must do in a lifetime' ride for 'sportive' riders and cycling enthusiasts alike. It is also now very accessible due to the many low cost flights going into Geneva and out of Nice.

Lake Annecy to the Med - The Route Napoleon

7 days       from  £995 excl. flights*

Starting in the lakeside town of Annecy, this great road cycling holiday follows a north to south route through some of the pre-Alpine regions to the west and south of the Central Alps. We start out by crossing the Massif des Bauges, then bi-pass Grenoble to follow a route between the massifs of the Ecrins on our left hand side and the Vercors on our right. Here, our route is defined by the N85 and the so-called '˜Route Napoleon'. In 1815, the Emperor Napoleon was in effective exile on the Island of Elba and made a triumphant return to Paris by marching across the Alps on the route that now bears his name. Cycling through a succession of traditional French villages, amongst stunning scenery, our undulating route takes us across our high-point at the Col Bayard (1246m) and down to the town of Gap in the Southern Alps. From here, we ride on the quiet roads of the '˜route du vin' to Sisteron and onwards beside the River Durance, before picking up the N85 again and diverting eastwards to the Lac de Castillon. Here, we are leaving behind the Alpes de Haute Provence and entering the only slightly less rugged region of the Alpes Maritimes. A super final day of cycling takes us to the Col du Vence (963m) before we swoop down to the pretty Mediterranean resort of Cagnes-sur-Mer. Offering 5 days of steady cycling through some of the best scenery in France, with lots of coffee and chill-out stops in town and villages en route, this is a brilliant road cycling tour.
