From our earliest days we've developed a range of treks that include celebrated classics such as Peru's Inca Trail trek, the ascent of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and the ever popular Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal. Alongside these, we have always made it a priority to seek out distinctive and unique itineraries in less familiar areas such as Armenia, Cameroon, Madagascar and Burma. KE Adventure Travel has an outstanding collection of climbing holidays that will take you to the world's most spectacular mountain ranges. Our climbing trips usually involve the ascent of snow-covered peaks where climbing ropes, ice axes and other items of mountaineering equipment may be used. Our climbing holidays can involve multi-day approaches on foot to a basecamp below the objective mountain. On this stage of the trip (which is effectively trekking) there will usually be the support of a trek crew to carry personal belongings, along with any tents, group climbing equipment, food and cooking equipment. The climbing is generally above the snow-line and can be at high altitude. Most of our climbing holidays have an experienced Western leader and in the case of our Alpine trips, the leader is always IFMGA qualified. None of our climbing trips requires more than a single mountaineering ice-axe, together with crampons and a climbing harness. Ropes may be used to safeguard steep or exposed sections or crevassed sections of the route. With long days, high altitudes, glacier camping and the possibility of encountering poor weather, these trips can be challenging.

Mont Blanc Ascent with Gran Paradiso

8 days       from  £2095 excl. flights*

If you are looking to climb Mont Blanc, this 1-week Alpine climbing holiday preparing and acclimatising on Italy's Gran Paradiso prior to the ascent, offers the best chance of summit success. After a rendezvous and briefing in Chamonix we drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Italy, where we have a session of skills training before making an ascent of Gran Paradiso (4061m), the only 4000 metre peak entirely within Italy's borders. The short approach hike to the Refugio Chabod, followed by the classic, easy snow climb to the summit of Gran Paradiso is a great introduction to Alpine climbing. We have a further night sleeping high at the Refugio Vittorio Emanuele and this provides the perfect preparation for climbing Mont Blanc. Returning to Chamonix, we have allowed 3 days for the climb, with 2 chances of making the summit via the 'Normal Route'. Our Mont Blanc trips are based at the extremely comfortable Yeti Lodge Chalets in Argentiere, close to Chamonix, offering all amenities including hot tubs, saunas and a great chef! Key to a successful Mont Blanc ascent is experienced and motivated guides and flexibility with the itinerary in case of bad weather. Our preferred option will be to take all clients via the ‘Normal Route' but the guides will select the most appropriate route depending on conditions on the mountain, the weather and availability in the huts. Our Mont Blanc package is fully inclusive of local transport and cable cars and all meals with the exception of lunches. This is a great value package, using a superb valley base and our expert guides will offer you every chance of getting to the summit on Mont Blanc.

With almost 30 years in the business of operating adventure holidays, there is no-one better able to look after your winter holidays than KE. Our winter holidays are all about having fun in the snow and the mountains, away from the downhill crowds and busy ski resorts. Instead, we seek out the quieter areas; ski touring in Sweden and Iceland, cross-country skiing across France's Jura Mountains, snowshoeing in the Alps and Pyrenees. With KE you can also get friendly with the local huskies on a dog-sledding adventure in Scandinavia, sleep in an igloo in Slovenia or explore the frozen interior of the far-flung island of South Georgia whilst making the classic ‘Shackleton Crossing' on skis. If you like snow, we definitely have a holiday to suit you. Quite aside from the popular pastimes of downhill skiing and snowboarding there are many adventurous activities that come into their own during the winter months and which can be enjoyed as a group activity with like-minded travellers. Our winter programme is divided into three holiday types: winter multi-activity, ski touring, and snowshoeing.

Grand Traverse of the Jura Ski Tour

8 days       from  £1695 excl. flights*

The Jura Mountains are France's best kept secret, and one of the least explored pockets of the Alps. If it is peace, tranquility and a true taste of authentic mountain life you seek then look no further! Known colloquially as ‘le pays qui respire' (the country with breathing space), the inhabitants take immense pride in their local produce and transjurassienne travel is a memorable feast for all the senses. Straddling the Franco-Swiss border, the Jura Mountains extend for a 250km arc from the Rhone to the Rhine. The Grande Traversee du Jura (GTJ) starts in the Val de Morteau in the Doubs department of France and ends 180kms later at Giron in the Ain department. The ski route, which was first completed in 1978, crosses the Haut-Jura regional park and follows much of the route of the world famous Transjurassiene ski race. Unlike the jagged peaks of the Alps, the landscape is more Nordic and rolling and each day we aim to cover 20 - 30kms of the trail, carrying only our daypacks, arriving at our overnight hotel or gite to find our luggage waiting for us. In this quiet corner of France, amidst a weather beaten Gallic culture cut off for centuries from both France and Switzerland, it's not unusual to ski all day without seeing anyone else. This is a unique trip and a true journey on skis, where the enigmatic landscapes will captivate and reward even the most seasoned of traveller.

Whichever of our trekking or walking holidays you choose to undertake, you can be sure you'll enjoy breaking out of your day-to-day routine and exploring exotic landscapes on foot, with the chance to experience different cultures.

Alpine Trails and Summits of the Queyras

8 days       from  £895 excl. flights*

Sandwiched between Briancon and the Italian border, the remote Alpine region of Queyras offers exceptional trekking with a distinctly 'off-the-beaten-track' feel. Based very loosely on the Tour of Queyras circuit (GR58), this exciting new treking holiday has been modified to include the very best hikes in the area. From a succession of charming refuges and gites, we climb around 1000 metres each day to reach the high ground, before continuing to such rocky summits as Rocca Bianca (3059m), Pain du Sucre (3208m) and Grand Glaiza (3293m). Throughout the holiday, there are fantastic views, north to the snow-capped Ecrins and Vanoise massifs and south to the dominating spire of Monte Viso (3841m). Seeking out the quietest areas, we can enjoy our picnic lunches in the company of marmots, chamois and golden eagles. The quality of the hiking in this hidden corner of the French Alps is a revelation!

Chamonix Snowshoe Short Break

5 days       from  £695 excl. flights*

A fabulous three days of centre based snowshoeing in the spectacular Chamonix Valley, France; this short break is the perfect introduction to winter walking on snowshoes! We begin our adventure with a day 'finding our feet' in the snow and ice-covered forests around Bois du Bouchet, where our guide will be on hand to offer instruction on how to make the most of our snowshoes on differing terrain. Modern snowshoes are light and easy to use so it is possible to progress very quickly from easy trails to steep mountain slopes. Now comfortable on our snowshoes, over the next two days we will have a choice of some of the best short day walks in the Chamonix Valley, a loop of Vallorcine (the valley of the bears), or exploring around the gorge and frozen waterfalls of the Berard Valley, where the ice has formed into dramatic shapes. As a finale we'll travel into the mountains above Les Houches, where we will wander up to the summit of Le Prarion (1969m) for a wonderful vista of the whole of the Chamonix Valley; a stunning sight and a great way to end our mini snow adventure.
