How to choose your trip to Kenya

Kenya is one of the most popular destinations for safaris and the hub for travel to East Africa. It offers tours which include the world famous Masai Mara, or for the more active, the chance to trek East Africa's other great mountain - Mount Kenya. Kenya's strategic location means it's also the start or end point for the great African overland journeys - either north along the Rift Valley towards Cairo, south towards Vic Falls and Cape Town, or as part of comprehensive safari tours of East Africa itself.

With over 200 holidays to choose from, KE Adventure Travel has one of the very best collections of trekking and walking holidays worldwide. Graded on a scale from 1 to 12, we have holidays to suit everyone. Our tougher treks are likely to involve multi-day hikes through wilderness regions, with porter support and tented accommodation. Whilst at the other end of the scale, our softer walking holidays are more likely to be hotel or lodge-based with a day-walk format and an emphasis on uncovering the area's history, culture and cuisine. From our earliest days we've developed a range of treks that include celebrated classics such as Peru's Inca Trail trek, the ascent of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and the ever popular Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal. Alongside these, we have always made it a priority to seek out distinctive and unique itineraries in less familiar areas such as Armenia, Cameroon, Madagascar and Burma. Whichever of our trekking or walking holidays you choose to undertake, you can be sure you'll enjoy breaking out of your day-to-day routine and exploring exotic landscapes on foot, with the chance to experience different cultures.

Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro

15 days       from  £3595 excl. flights*

Climbing Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro present very obvious challenges to the world's adventure travellers. We begin this exciting East African trekking holiday by heading north from Nairobi to Mount Kenya, where we undertake a superb 6-day traverse of Kenya's highest mountain via the Chogoria and Sirimon routes. KE groups encounter few other trekkers on this excellent and much under-rated peak, which also provides perfect acclimatisation for the ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro. Travelling overland to Tanzania, we have chosen to climb Kilimanjaro (5894m) by way of the Machame Route, which leads through luxuriant rainforest and then across alpine tundra, to the glaciated crater rim of Africa's highest peak. Although these are not technically demanding mountains, they do involve a combined ascent (and descent) of 6000m and even fit and experienced hikers will find this to be a challenging adventure holiday. In our opinion, this is the ultimate African high adventure holiday.

Mount Kenya Ascent

7 days       from  £1545 excl. flights*

Within just a week, this great trip completes a spectacular traverse of the mountain by way of the ‘trekkers summit' at Point Lenana (4985m), where the views include distant Kilimanjaro and the nearby rocky pinnacle of Batian (5199m), Mount Kenya's true summit. So much more than just up and down Mount Kenya, this trekking holiday has sustained interest throughout. Ascending by way of the Chogoria Route, we pass through a forest area that is home to elephant and buffalo, en route to the idyllic camps at Lake Ellis and at Lake Michaelson. Then, from our highest camp at Simba Tarn, we make the final ascent, often on a snow-covered trail. After enjoying the stunning Point Lenana sunrise, our 2-day descent via the beautiful Sirimon Route provides a suitably scenic conclusion to what is unquestionably one of the world's great adventures. North of Nairobi and almost straddling the equator, the triple-summited Mount Kenya provides the setting for one of the best treks in Africa.
