KE Adventure Travel has an outstanding collection of climbing holidays that will take you to the world's most spectacular mountain ranges. Our climbing trips usually involve the ascent of snow-covered peaks where climbing ropes, ice axes and other items of mountaineering equipment may be used. Our climbing holidays can involve multi-day approaches on foot to a basecamp below the objective mountain. On this stage of the trip (which is effectively trekking) there will usually be the support of a trek crew to carry personal belongings, along with any tents, group climbing equipment, food and cooking equipment. The climbing is generally above the snow-line and can be at high altitude. Most of our climbing holidays have an experienced Western leader and in the case of our Alpine trips, the leader is always IFMGA qualified. None of our climbing trips requires more than a single mountaineering ice-axe, together with crampons and a climbing harness. Ropes may be used to safeguard steep or exposed sections or crevassed sections of the route. With long days, high altitudes, glacier camping and the possibility of encountering poor weather, these trips can be challenging.

We follow the Monte Rosa west ridge route walking from the Monte Rosa Hut which is located on a rocky island in a veritable sea of Alpine ice on the Monte Rosa Glacier. Climbing to the highest point, the Dufourspitze (4643m/15,230ft), the views of the Alps are quite breathtaking. With almost 30 years in the business of operating adventure holidays, there is no-one better able to look after your winter holidays than KE. Our winter holidays are all about having fun in the snow and the mountains, away from the downhill crowds and busy ski resorts. Instead, we seek out the quieter areas; ski touring in Sweden and Iceland, cross-country skiing across France's Jura Mountains, snowshoeing in the Alps and Pyrenees. With KE you can also get friendly with the local huskies on a dog-sledding adventure in Scandinavia, sleep in an igloo in Slovenia or explore the frozen interior of the far-flung island of South Georgia whilst making the classic ‘Shackleton Crossing' on skis. If you like snow, we definitely have a holiday to suit you. Quite aside from the popular pastimes of downhill skiing and snowboarding there are many adventurous activities that come into their own during the winter months and which can be enjoyed as a group activity with like-minded travellers. Our winter programme is divided into three holiday types: winter multi-activity, ski touring, and snowshoeing.

Trans Jura Swiss

8 days       from  £1795 excl. flights*

The Jura Mountains are one of the least explored pockets of the Alps. If it is peace, tranquility and a true taste of authentic mountain life you seek then look no further! Known colloquially as ‘le pays qui respire' (the country with breathing space), the inhabitants take immense pride in their local produce and the Trans Jura is not only great cross country skiing but also a memorable feast for all the senses. Our Trans Jura Swiss starts in La Cure on the Swiss Franco border and ends 153kms later at the aptly named 'Vue des Alpes'. The ski route, which was first completed in 1976, crosses the Haut-Jura regional park and is mosttly along prepared , pressed tracks. Unlike the jagged peaks of the Alps, the landscape is more Nordic and rolling and each day we aim to cover 20 - 35kms of the trail, carrying only our daypacks, arriving at our overnight hotel or gite to find our luggage waiting for us. In this quiet corner of Switzerland, amidst a weather beaten mountain culture cut off for centuries from both France and Switzerland, it's not unusual to ski all day without seeing anyone else. This is a unique trip and a true journey on skis, where the enigmatic landscapes will captivate and reward even the most seasoned of traveller.

En route, we trek through picturesque valleys and cross high cols, looking out for the Alpine wildlife that Gran Paradiso National Park is famous for, such as chamois, ibex, marmots and eagles. Although an area of outstanding beauty, the Gran Paradiso has escaped the attention of the crowds, thereby rewarding the intrepid and discerning hiker with a wild solitude which has been long lost in other regions of the Alps. This is the one to do if you really want to get off the beaten trail!

With over 200 holidays to choose from, KE Adventure Travel has one of the very best collections of trekking and walking holidays worldwide. Graded on a scale from 1 to 12, we have holidays to suit everyone. Our tougher treks are likely to involve multi-day hikes through wilderness regions, with porter support and tented accommodation. Whilst at the other end of the scale, our softer walking holidays are more likely to be hotel or lodge-based with a day-walk format and an emphasis on uncovering the area's history, culture and cuisine. From our earliest days we've developed a range of treks that include celebrated classics such as Peru's Inca Trail trek, the ascent of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and the ever popular Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal. Alongside these, we have always made it a priority to seek out distinctive and unique itineraries in less familiar areas such as Armenia, Cameroon, Madagascar and Burma. Whichever of our trekking or walking holidays you choose to undertake, you can be sure you'll enjoy breaking out of your day-to-day routine and exploring exotic landscapes on foot, with the chance to experience different cultures.

Best of the Tour du Mont Blanc Trek

8 days       from  £1045 excl. flights*

At the heart of the European Alps, the massif of Mont Blanc straddles the borders of France, Italy and Switzerland and includes some of the most spectacular mountain scenery and trekking imaginable. With its rich mountaineering history and unsurpassed cultural diversity, this corner of the Alps has an irresistible attraction for the world's adventurers, climbers and hikers. Mont Blanc itself, at 4807 metres (15,770 feet), is the high point of the range and the biggest peak in Western Europe. This great walking holiday picks out the best of the daily stages of the Tour du Mont Blanc and links them by short vehicle transfers. During 6 days of trekking, we will get to see all of the highlights of this famous long-distance walk, including all of the best mountain views. Our route will tackle several major pass crossings, such as the Col de Bonhomme, Col de la Seigne and the highest of all, the Fenetre d'Arpette (2670m). And, as a finale, we have also included the superb day-hike to picturesque Lac Blanc, with its panoramic views across the Chamonix Valley to Mont Blanc. For those with limited time, this one-week trekking version of the Tour du Mont Blanc offers superb trekking in 3 countries; France, Italy and Switzerland, as well as a wealth of unforgettable Alpine experiences. Which Tour Du Mont Blanc is for you? The Classic Tour Du Mont Blanc (TMH) or the Ultimate Tour Du Mont Blanc (UTM)? - Both holidays are the same duration and involve 10 days walking without rest days. Whilst the Classic Tour completes the entire circuit, it does miss out a few of the higher cols and refuges, often retuning to the valley to stay in a nice hotel! For those wanting to do the original High Level tour, with a couple of extra nights in Refuges to add character to the route, then the UTM ticks all the boxes. If you are short of time, try the 6-day Best of the Tour Du Mont Blanc (BTM), a shortened version of the Classic Tour, but using vehicle transfers between the best parts of the walk!

Tour des Combins

8 days       from  £1045 excl. flights*

The Tour des Combins is a relatively new long distance path which describes a complete walking circuit of one of the most famous peaks in the Alps, the Grand Combin (4314m). Over 6 days of walking we travel through high Alpine meadows where edelweiss grows and climb up beside one of the largest glaciers in Europe, the Glacier de Corbassiere, to reach the Col du Grand St Bernard and the monastery which became famous for its dog who would go out in wild conditions with a barrel of brandy strapped to its collar to find lost mountaineers. A great alternative to the Tour du Mont Blanc, the beauty of this walking circuit around the Combin is that so few people are walking it - at the moment! Be one of the first to complete this new trekking circuit and enjoy sensational mountain scenery without the crowds.
