from £635 excl. flights*  Located amongst the Kelabit Highlands of Sarawak, the twin peaks of Batu Lawi Mountain are steeped in legend and myth. Standing over 2,000 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest mountains in Sarawak and has for years attracted adventurers and explorers to its craggy slopes. Taking you deep into the heart of these majestic highlands, this cultural trek explorers a land of 'lost' tribes, ancient jungles and spectacular vistas.You'll begin in Bario, spending a little time with the local Kelabit people before departing for your first camp in the heart of the primary jungle. Over the course of the next four days you will then follow a series of tracks and old logging trails through the lush landscape, heading towards the lower peak of Batu Lawi.The mountain is sacred to many of the local tribes in the area. The Kelabit believe the twin peaks to be a husband and wife; a pair of divine protectors who sired the highland people and now stand sentinel over them. You'll learn something of these legends in the shadow of the mountain, before retracing your steps back towards Bario. | |
