Cairo To Khartoum

Travelling in the footsteps of the pharaohs, this remarkable adventure takes you from the Giza Plateau to the shores of Lake Nasser and on into the deserts of ancient Nubia, on an 18 day journey that ends before the merging waters of the Blue and White Niles.Beginning in Cairo you'll discover the last of the seven great wonders of the ancient world, the Great Pyramids of Giza, before following the fertile river as it winds its way through the Nile Valley. Taking in some of the most important and sacred temples in ancient Egypt you'll head south, stopping off to explore the Valley of the Kings and the mighty temple of Karnak as you make your way towards Aswan and the shores of Lake Nasser.Crossing into neighbouring Sudan you then enter the lands of ancient Nubia, home to some of the most remarkable archaeological sites on the African continent. Here, amongst the dunes of the Nubian Desert, you'll come across the haunting pyramids of Meroe, before ending your journey in Khartoum at the meeting of the two Niles.

Ancient Egypt

Egypt can boast a cultural legacy that is amongst the oldest and most fascinating on earth. Its iconic monuments were built by a civilisation whose influence still reverberates across some 5,000 years of history, from a time when Ancient Egypt was one of the most powerful kingdoms in the known world.This comprehensive journey takes you into the heart of this incredible country, following the Nile Valley as it snakes it way into Upper Egypt, across a landscape scattered with the iconic remains of the once great pharaohs. From the bustle of downtown Cairo you will travel to the little visited sites of Minya and Assuit, visiting the temples of Abydos and Dendera, before continuing on to Luxor.The once ancient city of Thebes, Luxor today is home to some of Ancient Egypt's most spectacular archaeological treasures including the immense Temple of Karnak and the mortuary tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Classical Egypt

Steeped in a history that stretches back across countless millennia, Egypt is home to some of the world's most iconic monuments. This classic overland journey takes you along the fertile ribbon of the Nile Valley and into the very heart of ancient Egypt.The journey begins in Cairo, home to the great Pyramids of Giza, the last of the great wonders of antiquity. You'll have an opportunity to visit the famous pyramids at both Giza and Saqqara, as well as the treasures of the city's Museum, which include the remarkable horde of artefacts taken from the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.Travelling by train, you then head along the timeless landscapes of the Nile Valley to Aswan, where you can visit the beautiful temple of Isis on the island of Philae and take to the Nile in a traditional felucca sailboat before driving to Luxor, site of the ancient capital of Thebes. Here you will have a chance to explore the spectacular remains of Karnak and Luxor Temples and the vast mortuary temples of the Valley of the Kings, some of the greatest creations of the Pharaohs of the Eighteenth Dynasty.
