This is an alternative trek to Everest Base Camp taking the western route via the Gokyo Lakes and Cho La Pass, which offers a tougher, longer and more remote adventure. From Namche Bazaar, you head west into the Bhote Kosi Valley and head to Gokyo via Machhermo and Dole. From Gokyo village, you can climb Gokyo Ri (5360m) for spectacular views of four of the seven highest Nepalese peaks - Cho Oyu (8153m) to the north, Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8512m) to the east and further to Makalu (8463m), as well as the Ngozumpo glacier, the longest in Nepal which descends the slopes of Cho Oyu. You trek across the Ngozumpo glacier through the Cho La Pass to reach the main route to Everest Base Camp. From here, you can climb Kala Pattar for the best close-up views of Everest and trek across the Khumbu Glacier to the base camp before returning to Namche Bazaar via Dingboche and Thyangboche.

With over 200 holidays to choose from, KE Adventure Travel has one of the very best collections of trekking and walking holidays worldwide. Graded on a scale from 1 to 12, we have holidays to suit everyone. Our tougher treks are likely to involve multi-day hikes through wilderness regions, with porter support and tented accommodation. Whilst at the other end of the scale, our softer walking holidays are more likely to be hotel or lodge-based with a day-walk format and an emphasis on uncovering the area's history, culture and cuisine. From our earliest days we've developed a range of treks that include celebrated classics such as Peru's Inca Trail trek, the ascent of Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and the ever popular Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal. Alongside these, we have always made it a priority to seek out distinctive and unique itineraries in less familiar areas such as Armenia, Cameroon, Madagascar and Burma. Whichever of our trekking or walking holidays you choose to undertake, you can be sure you'll enjoy breaking out of your day-to-day routine and exploring exotic landscapes on foot, with the chance to experience different cultures.

The Ultimate Everest Lodge Trek

Home to Everest Base Camp and the famously friendly Sherpas, the Khumbu trekking region boasts some of the most extraordinary high mountain scenery on earth. After flying in to Lukla, our exciting trek to Everest Base camp takes us via the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar to the sacred lakes of the Gokyo Valley. Here, we climb Gokyo Ri which is one of the finest vantage points for Mount Everest (8848m). Crossing into the Khumbu Valley by way of the high and challenging Cho La (5420m), we then climb to the "trekkers summit" of Kala Patar (5600m) which affords more stunning views of Mount Everest and of the astonishing Khumbu Icefall. We have time to walk up to Everest Basecamp, before trekking out by way of the famous and recently restored monastery at Thyangboche. Staying in comfortable Sherpa lodges throughout, this circuit of the Everest National Park provides a comprehensive taste of the Khumbu that is hard to beat within a 3-week adventure holiday.
