The Best of Nepal Trekking

An overview of the best trekking destinations in the Nepali Himalayas

Nepal is renowned worldwide as a Mecca for trekking and mountaineering. Eight out of the fourteen highest mountain peaks in the world lie within this small South Asian nation. So, it’s no wonder that Nepal boasts some of the best trekking routes in the world. In this article, we list out the five best treks in Nepal with a short description of each. Enjoy!

5. Langtang trek:

If you’re looking for an easy trek full of diverse Himalayan terrain, the Langtang trek is perfect for you. The Langtang region lies to the north of Kathmandu and borders Tibet. The region is famous for its high mountain lakes such as Gosainkunda. The view of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking – especially in the mornings and evenings. The culture in this region is heavily influenced by Tibet. So, all in all, the Langtang trek offers a great snapshot of the full Himalayan experience.

4. Upper Mustang trek:

The Upper Mustang trek offers the best Tibetan experience among all Nepalese treks. Only opened for the public in 1991, Upper Mustang is a repository of ancient Tibetan culture and tradition. The view of the surrounding mountains is equally spectacular. It is also a pretty tough trek, in which you’ll get a great natural as well as cultural experience.

3. Kanchenjunga trek:

Not as crowded as the more popular treks such as the Annapurna circuit or Everest Base Camp, the Kanchenjunga is nevertheless a magnificent trek offering majestic views of the surrounding peaks. This challenging 20-day trek is not for the faint of heart. In some ways, it is the ultimate Nepali adventure – difficult yet rewarding. You’ll be trekking around the slopes of Mount Kanchenjunga which, at 8586 m, is the third highest mountain peak in the world.

2. Manaslu trek:

Trekking around Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m), this trek will have you walking in remote nature, among majestic Himalayan peaks. If you love nature and despise crowds, this 15-day trek is perfect for you. The Manaslu trek is quite challenging especially because of the snowy mountainous trail. Crossing the Larke pass at 5135 m is the toughest part of the trek. Yet, this trek is a very rewarding experience – one you will cherish your whole life.

1. Everest Base Camp:

A list of top Nepali treks would be incomplete without including the Everest Base Camp trek. This trek will bring you face-to-face with the tallest mountain in the world – Mount Everest, at 8848 m. Despite offering a full range of Himalayan experience, this trekking route has comfortable guesthouses and lodges with all basic amenities. The unique Sherpa culture mixed with beautiful Himalayan terrain makes this trek absolutely memorable.

If you’re going trekking or climbing in Nepal, a question which will often arise is “Which trekking or climbing company do I use?” A new portal called TrekBooking.com helps answer this very question. They also connect people who are trekking to the same place through a nice “Find trekking and climbing partners” feature.

TrekBooking.Com is currently Nepal’s largest trekking portal, but aims to be the world’s leading trekking and climbing portal within 6 months.
