Get beyond the tourist façade of the countries you visit. Focus on the local culture, past and present, and discover the lifeblood of any country – its people. Discovery and culture tours uncover different ways of life, and offer the opportunity to meet and sometimes stay with local people or tribal groups. Our discovery tours explore cultural sites – both ancient and modern – and help you learn about the people and their culture. Visit the remote tribes of Ethiopia’s Rift Valley, live the nomad life in desert camps or meet the local people of the high Andean altiplano in Peru. There’s no better way to get to the true heart of a country than through its people.

Hidden Treasures of the Mekong

14 days       from  £2999 incl. flights*
Tour Map of Hidden Treasures of the Mekong

In contrast to those holidays which focus on the buzz, glitz and ultramodern attractions of Asia, this alluring itinerary instead celebrates the spirituality, sublime natural beauty and languid charm of the famous ‘Golden Triangle’ region, where Thailand, Laos and Burma meet. Follow a stay in the delightful surroundings of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai with a short cruise along the mighty Mekong and discovery of two of the world’s great travel icons - Luang Prabang, with its gleaming golden temples, and Angkor, the most extraordinary collection of ancient religious buildings, now many romantically reclaimed by the jungle, with awe-inspiring Angkor Wat at its heart. Just as memorable are the smiling faces and friendly welcomes throughout, and picturesque scenes of rice paddies, lush forested hills and tribal villages.

Beyond the Mekong - Laos and Cambodia

12 days       from  £1795 excl. flights*

The neighbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia offer a glimpse of SE Asia at its most traditional and intriguing; during the course of this 2 week holiday, through a combination of day walks, jungle treks, river journeys and sightseeing, we'll uncover all the secrets of this tranquil corner of the world. We begin in northern Thailand from where we'll cross the mighty Mekong River and enter Laos. Here we'll enjoy 3 days of walking in the Laotian Highlands. Firstly at Luang Namtha, the homeland of a number of colourful hilltribes, where we will have the chance to meet and experience the distinctive cultures of these fascinating ethnic minorities. At Nam Yat Kola Pa we'll spend a day exploring through immaculate jungle, in search of pristine waterfalls. Next we'll take a traditional long boat journey down river, to our riverside bungalow accommodation at Muang Gnoi, nestled amongst striking limestone outcrops and rice fields. Then it's back to civilisation in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Luang Prabang is one of most attractive towns in the whole of Laos, mainly due to its interesting blend of buddhist temples, traditional Indochinese and French colonial buildings. Flying south to Siem Reap in Cambodia, the final 3 days of our holiday are spent exploring on foot around the astounding, 1000 year old, temples of Angkor Wat. We will visit all the iconic temples, as well as some of its hidden jewels. A simply unforgettable way to round off our holiday.
