Take the challenging and less-travelled Lemosho route up to the highest peak in Africa, considered by many to be the most beautiful path up the western breach of the mountain to the Shira Plateau. This adventure starts off with a few long days as you gain altitude and has several days built in to help you acclimatize, improving your chances of making the summit. Enjoy the climb through magnificent forests and moorland, and emerge into high-alpine deserts as you enjoy spectacular views along the way to the summit.

We trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. Following the little-used and scenic Lemosho route we climb and descend on different paths, walking through the mountain's different climatic regions and admiring the changing plant and animal life. Highlights include the ice fields of Kibo, the daunting Barranco Wall and the breathtaking views from the summit itself.

Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route Trek

Starting out in the west and with a first day of trekking through dense stands of forest, rich in wildlife, the peaceful and relatively little-trekked Lemosho Route climbs to trek across the scenic moorland of the Shira Plateau and offers great views of Kibo's southern glaciers. It is one of the quietest and most varied routes on the mountain and also the longest of the regular routes, with 8 days of trekking in all meaning you will be as well acclimatised as possible before trekking to Kilimanjaro`s summit. Our version of this great trek spends 2 nights at the camp in the Karanga Valley, followed by a relatively short day to the highest camp at Barafu (4600m), which should put everyone in good shape for the challenging summit day. Adequate acclimatisation is key to making a successful ascent of this giant peak and the classic Lemosho Route is a logical choice for anyone who is happy to take the extra day's holiday.
