Oman is one of Arabia’s true gems - a land of rugged coastlines and vast deserts where tradition and progress go hand in hand. This wonderful adventure takes us from the heart of its picturesque capital, deep into mountains and deserts of the Bedu and the old Omani Imamate. We will take in the breathless landscapes of the Hajar Mountains and the shifting sands of Wahiba, explore the old forts of Jabrin and Nizwa and journey into the vast emptiness of the Rub Al Khali, the Empty Quarter to the ruins of lost city of Ubar. It is a journey of incredible contrasts, following in the footsteps of the pioneering explorers of old and taking in some of the richest natural and cultural highlights that Arabia has to offer.

Arabia - Ancient and Modern

There can be no region of the world where the contrast between ancient and modern is more pronounced and enthralling than Arabia. In scarcely more than half a century, Dubai and Abu Dhabi have undergone an unparalleled transformation from peaceful fishing villages to dynamic, futuristic metropolises - cities that owe little to history and everything to wealth, imagination and breathtaking audacity. Yet in Oman, the Emirates’ neighbour, echoes of the past are inescapable. This is the legendary land of Sindbad and the age-old frankincense trade, of dramatic fortresses and aromatic souqs. Titan’s tour takes in the very best of Arabia, ancient and modern, along with the scenically spectacular but little-visited Musandam Peninsula, the so-called ‘Norway of Arabia’.

On this exciting journey in Oman, we discover diverse landscapes; from the majestic Green Mountains of Jebel Akhdar to the soaring dunes of the Wahiba Sands. We experience the wilderness of the desert, visit spectacular beaches and swim in the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Oman. We camp under the stars, sail on a traditional dhow and experience Oman's rich culture with visits to Muscat and Nizwa.

Arabian Sands Eclipse

Witness a spectacular annular eclipse in the Wahiba Sands on this adventure through the diverse landscapes of this fascinating country. Discover the contrasts of modern day and ancient Omani life by visiting colourful souks, meeting date farmers and exploring the contemporary Grand Mosque in Muscat. Stay on the highest mountain in the country and peer down echoing fissures at Oman's grand canyon. Sleep out under a bed of stars in a true wilderness camp in the desert and swim in turquoise waters at Wadi Arbayeen.

The Walks, Wadis and Wonders of Oman

Miles of empty beaches, hidden wadi pools, nesting turtles, endless desert, dramatic mountain ranges, welcoming people and year-round sunshine are some of the highlights on this super holiday in Oman. Our week starts in Muscat visiting the impressive Grand Mosque before an afternoon dolphin and whale spotting on the water. Heading south we have a short walk in the beautiful Wadi Shab with its idyllic pools, and a stop at the interesting traditional dhow (boat) building yard before driving to the turtle reserve at Ras al Hadd. With luck we'll see the females digging holes and laying their eggs, or see the baby turtles breaking through the sand by the light of the moon. We walk in the famous Wadi Bani Kahlid and then travel to the dreamlike landscape of dunes at Wahiba Sands. Wild camping in the dunes is a great experience and we can choose to sleep out under desert skies, looking out for shooting stars and roving satellites. The next stop on our loop is the oasis town of Nizwa where the colourful souks are a dream for souvenirs or just taking a look at the wares. Our final day takes us into Jebel Shams and we walk along the dramatic '˜Balcony Walk' through the Grand Canyon of Oman. This is a great one-week holiday with short walks, minimal camping, high sunshine probability and lots of culture and adventure!

Oman is a beautiful and historic land, full of traditional hospitality and unspoilt riches. On the surface it may appear almost inhospitable, yet grand towns and cities have grown amongst the sparse mountains, rich on the harvest of frankincense, and Arab tribes have survived for centuries in the midst of boundless desert. We begin and end in Muscat, Oman’s port capital with a modern palace and grandest of mosques. The days between take you to some of Oman’s traditional villages, set in beautiful ravines, and into the desert on a 4WD adventure to meet Bedouin families - the only permanent residents of this land - and spend a night in a luxury camp under the stars.
