Walking In Ladakh & Kashmir

16 days       from  £2495 excl. flights*
Tour Map of Walking In Ladakh & Kashmir

Kashmir - that centuries old holiday idyll - offers some of the most pristine and wonderful trekking anywhere on the subcontinent. Wild Frontiers have returned here for the past 12 years, walking the streets of Srinagar, staying on the houseboats, and repeatedly coming to the conclusion that this region had been off the radar for travellers for too long. The trip starts with three nights relaxing on Srinagar's famous lakes, before heading out on a four-day classic Himalayan trek from Aru to Sonomus, taking you through primal forests, past pristine lakes and over high mountain passes. We'll then journey along the Srinagar-Leh highway to Kargil, travelling over the Zoji La Pass on the way. From here we continue east towards Leh as we take in the stunning scenery and rural life in the old Silk Road kingdom of Ladakh, trekking over various passes and visiting Lamayuru, Ang, Hemis Shukpachan, Yangthang and Likir on the way. Once in Leh we will visit the ancient palaces, forts and monasteries of the Indus Valley, before flying down to Delhi for our final night of the tour. This is a wonderful trip for anyone with a strong sense of adventure and love of the wild outdoors. Highlights Include:

  • The houseboats of Dal Lake, Srinagar
  • Exploring the narrow streets and historical sights of the fabled city of Srinagar
  • Wonderful trekking through the Kashmiri mountains
  • Camping in remote areas and local homestays
  • The monasteries in and around Leh

Sacred Mountains of Indian Kashmir

16 days       from  £1900 excl. flights*

In September 2016 Untamed Borders will be running the first commercial trekking expedition since the 1990’s to traverse from Ladakh into the Kashmiri Himalayas. We will start the journey with a spectacular flight from Delhi over the southern Himalayas to Leh, the capital of Ladakh. Here we will visit ancient Buddhist monasteries and acclimatise at an altitude of 3500m. On this pioneering trek we will scale high Himalayan mountain passes, visit the holy Hindu shrine Amarnath, a high altitude ice cave, and enjoy downtime in the culturally rich regional capitals of Leh and Srinigar. This trekking expedition truly ticks all the boxes!
