India: High Road to Kashmir

15 days       from  £2395 excl. flights*
Tour Map of India: High Road to Kashmir

For more than a decade the holiday Mecca of Kashmir was considered out of bounds. Not any more! Since 2005, we have been running trips here with great success. Of all our trips to Kashmir, this is one of our favourites, including as it does a visit to neighbouring Ladakh with its strong Tibetan Buddhist influences. Starting with an epic flight over the Himalayas to Leh, we will first visit ancient palaces, forts and monasteries of the Indus Valley where we will also be able to see rural life in the old Silk Road kingdom of Ladakh. From here we will visit the remote Nubra Valley over the world’s highest driveable pass before heading on what is generally regarded as one of the most spectacular roads in the whole Himalaya - via Lamayuru and the Zanskar Valley - to Srinagar and its beautiful Alpine mountains and lakes. This itinerary is perfect for those with a real sense of adventure!

Hill Stations to Kashmir

14 days       from  £2295 excl. flights*
Tour Map of Hill Stations to Kashmir

In November 2012, after 22 years the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) finally lifted its advice against travel to Srinagar, Indian Kashmir's summer capital. As we have been running trips to the fabled valley since 2004 and have been lobbying hard to have the advice eased, we are delighted to see the UK government finally agrees and are equally delighted to be able to offer this brand new itinerary which allows visitors to access this stunning part of India without contravening the FCO advice. Starting in Delhi the trip takes the “toy train” up to the Raj summer capital hill station of Shimla before making for the home of the Dalai Lama’s Tibetan government in exile in the twin towns of Dharamsala / McLeod Ganj. After paying our respects at the glorious Sikh Golden Temple in Amritsar we will then journey north into the realms of Kashmir and on to Srinagar where we have three nights based in a houseboat on Dal Lake soaking up the atmosphere of this centuries old holiday idyll.

Kashmir: Garden of the Moghul Kings

11 days       from  £1895 excl. flights*
Tour Map of Kashmir: Garden of the Moghul Kings

Kashmir - that centuries old holiday idyll - is back on the tourist map offering some of the most pristine and wonderful countryside anywhere on the subcontinent. Wild Frontiers first returned in 2004 and since then we have been taking groups each year to walk the streets of Srinagar, trek in the hills and float around the tranquil lakes. Kashmir, a true earthly paradise, has been closed for too long and we are delighted to be able to offer this tour, focusing entirely on the fabled Vale. The three-day water-journey from Dal Lake to Manasbal Lake and beyond will take you on a beautiful watery trail, first plaid by the Moghul rulers in the seventeenth century, and then by the Brits two hundred years later. Staying in lovely mountain camps, we will see and walk among the Himalayan foothills at their most glorious. We will also visit the mountain village of Gulmarg and spend four nights on Srinagar’s famous houseboats. This relaxed tour of Kashmir, will be perfect for anyone wanting to unwind and see this amazing place at a slow and steady pace.
