Our Discovery collection draws together the best of our holidays that focus on the culture of a destination, as well as on visiting iconic sights and embracing local traditions. Some of these Discovery holidays will also have an element of activity, combining sightseeing with short walks, for example. Others might have a multi-activity holiday format, including biking and/or rafting, for instance, and these holidays are specifically designed for the adrenaline seeker! Also within our discovery collection are those of our holidays with a wildlife emphasis, photographic workshops, and polar cruise holidays. Never too physically demanding, these are predominantly touring holidays and their grade (usually towards the lower end of our 1 to 12 scale) reflects, in part, the remoteness of the area visited and the conditions likely to be encountered. Our Discovery holidays allow the discerning traveller to get right to the heart of many of the world's most stimulating destinations.

Tigers, Temples and Taj Mahal

For those with an interest in India and in particular its wildlife, this is an unmissable Indian adventure holiday. After an overnight train ride from Delhi, we take our first game drives at Bandhavgarh, which has the highest density of tigers of any Indian reserve - there is every chance of spotting a tiger here! After 3 days, we move on to nearby Kanha, a well-run park comprising almost 2000 square kilometres of grassland, forest and rocky ridge-lines, whose rich wildlife includes monkeys, deer, wild boar, leopard and tiger. Then, we travel to Agra and spend a full day exploring the Red Fort, the colourful bazaars and the breathtakingly beautiful Taj Mahal. Finally, we visit world-famous Ranthambore, once a hunting reserve of the Jaipur Maharajas and still home to an abundant wildlife. With its atmospheric forts and temples, hidden deep within the forest, this place was an inspiration for Kipling. It can inspire you, too!

Joining an adventure deep in to the heart of India, we discover magnificent wildlife and scenery in four different national parks that have one wonderful thing in common: Bengal tigers! In Satpura we venture out by canoe, four-wheel drive and on foot in search of sloth bears, leopards and crocodiles, while Chital, Sambar, Neelgai are often spotted in Kanha; Pench is the delightful inspiration for Kipling's Jungle Book and Tadoba takes us off the beaten path to a rarely visited park and tiger reserve. An ideal trip for lovers of wildlife, nature or India.

The jungles and hills of Central India provide a stunning backdrop for this journey back to childhood. These rich landscapes provided the inspiration for the stories of the 'man cub' Mowgli and the fearsome Sher Khan, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and Toomai of the elephants. Here, amongst some of the largest and most pristine National Parks in India, we'll follow in the footsteps of Rudyard Kipling and Baloo as we search for the elusive and majestic Bengal tiger. Beginning in Mumbai we'll have the opportunity to enjoy the cultural and historic highlights of old Bombay before flying on to Nagpur, our gateway into Tadoba and Kanha National Parks, two of India's most famous tiger reserves. Morning and afternoon game drives provide an ideal opportunity to search for tigers, leopards and a myriad of other wildlife, before a train journey on to Pipariya brings us to the Satpura National Park. Here we'll have the chance to enjoy walking safaris and river trips before continuing on to Bhopal, where the magnificent UNESCO treasures of the Bhimbetka cave paintings and the stunning Buddhist stupas at Sanchi await.

It is said that Kanha National Park and Pench National Park were Rudyard Kipling’s inspiration for the Jungle Book. The landscape of these sanctuaries, and Tadoba National Park, are no less inspiring today, with magnificent tigers, inquisitive monkeys, prowling wild dogs, sleek leopards, shaggy sloth bears and over 300 species of birds living amongst the forests of bamboo and sal, long grasses and streams.
