Croatia Coast and Islands

The Adriatic Dalmatian coastline with its island chains, is one of the most scenically dramatic in Europe, dotted with towns and villages which are medieval in character and Mediterranean in ambience. This spectacular new walking holiday to Croatia explores the very best of the areas of outstanding natural beauty on the Dalmatian Coast including the islands of Lopud, Korkula and Mljet with its own national park. During the holiday we will walk through vineyards in the lovely Knovale countryside, hike to the top of Mount Snjeznica, the highest point in Southern Croatia, stride out along the ancient walls of Ston on the Peljesac peninsula and the forested ridges of Korcula Island. Travelling between the islands by ferry we climb to the highest points of Lopud and Mljet for stunning views over the coast. On each of our 6 walking days we will have a moderately paced hike of between 10 and 15 km. We will also have the opportunity for sightseeing and with time to relax on the beach. The tour ends with a day spent in the unique walled city of Dubrovnik. Known as the pearl of the Adriatic, the image of Dubrovnik's ochre-tiled roofscape seen over stone towers and battlements which rise from an azure blue sea, is internationally renown. Close up, Dubrovnik reveals a feast of medieval architecture and baroque churches, while its lanes and alleyways fanning out either side of the polished marble main street of the Stradun, hide a myriad of small cafes and interesting shops. Croatia remains one of Europe's best kept travel secrets and is the perfect location for a relaxing walking holiday in the sunshine of the Adriatic.

Canyons and Coastal Croatia Walking Week

Northern Croatia and the Adriatic coast, is one of the most scenically dramatic landscapes in Europe. Croatia's Northern coastline, with it's relaxed Mediterranean ambience, offers an area rich in stunningly beautiful medieval towns, and villages, fantastic food, lush national parks and sunshine! This spectacular walking holiday explores the very best of the Northern Adriatic Coast and its areas of outstanding natural beauty, including the National Parks of Plitvice and Krka with their superb lakes, spectacular waterfalls and rich fauna. We start in the capital, Zagreb with its busy market square, old quarter and stunning cathedral before exploring Plitvice National Park with its cascading waterfalls and wooden walkways. As we head to the coast, we'll walk in the spectacular Velebit Mountains and Paklenice National Park which dominate the horizon. Wild landscapes of deep canyons and rugged mountains overlooking the islands of Pag, Rab and Kornati National Park. On each of our walking days we will have a moderately paced hike of between 4 - 5 hours on a variety of trails. After the splendour of the mountains we arrive on the stunning Adriatic Coast, with time to soak up the beauty of Krupa Canyon, before enjoying the laid-back atmosphere and beautiful architecture in Zadar and UNESCO Split, two of the Mediterranean's most welcoming towns. This Croatian walking holiday offers a chance to experience a different side to one of Europe's newest countries.

Over more than 30 years Explore has developed a diverse and exciting range of more than 100 walking and trekking holidays. Whether you’re new to walking holidays, a casual hiker or a seasoned trekker you will find plenty of expertly planned walks and treks to choose from. We specialise in small group walking and trekking holidays. On these you will be in a group of up to 16 along with an experienced tour leader. Depending on the trek you may also have guides, porters, muleteers, cooks and camping crew with you too. For many trekkers the camaraderie with the crew is one of the highlights of the holiday.

On this walking trip through Croatia's national parks, we explore the jagged mountain peaks of Dalmatia, the plunging gorges of Paklenica and admire the spectacular lakes and waterfalls of Plitvice.
