Our Discovery collection draws together the best of our holidays that focus on the culture of a destination, as well as on visiting iconic sights and embracing local traditions. Some of these Discovery holidays will also have an element of activity, combining sightseeing with short walks, for example. Others might have a multi-activity holiday format, including biking and/or rafting, for instance, and these holidays are specifically designed for the adrenaline seeker! Also within our discovery collection are those of our holidays with a wildlife emphasis, photographic workshops, and polar cruise holidays. Never too physically demanding, these are predominantly touring holidays and their grade (usually towards the lower end of our 1 to 12 scale) reflects, in part, the remoteness of the area visited and the conditions likely to be encountered. Our Discovery holidays allow the discerning traveller to get right to the heart of many of the world's most stimulating destinations.

The Great Southern African Safari

21 days       from  £2595 excl. flights*

What better way to start a Southern African adventure holiday than at the world's largest and most majestic of all waterfalls - Victoria Falls. From Victoria Falls we depart the banks of Zambezi and drive west into the wilderness of Namibia's Caprivi Strip. Wedged between Angola and Botswana, we explore Caprivi's Mahango Game Reserve and chill out on the banks on the Kavango River. Our next stop is the vast, wildlife rich pans of Etosha National Park. Where the waterholes bustle with African big game we are sure to get our first glimpse of big cats and herds of elephants led by their redoubtable matriarch. Moving deeper into Namibia we stop by the charming coastal town of Swakopmund before heading south to explore the famous sharp-edged dunes of the Namib Desert. Well into the pace of African life, our journey heads east and onto the accessible wilderness of Botswana where we take a walk with the San Bushmen of the Kalahari. Next up, we discover the myriad of wildlife at the world famous Okavango Delta. Exploring the waterways of the Okavango Delta by a traditional Mokoro canoe, allows us to get up close to the hippos and birdlife of this iconic waterland. A true land of wilderness, Botswana's Chobe National Park provides the last stage for our final safari experience. Rich grasslands sustain a high concentration of wildlife as we seek out the hunter and hunted on land and by boat. Ending this adventure at the explorers' town of Livingstone is a fitting finale to our 'Great Southern African Safari'.

Best of Botswana - Okavango, Chobe & Vic Falls

15 days       from  £2245 excl. flights*

Whether you're a seasoned safari enthusiast or a first timer, this safari adventure holiday encompasses some of the most unique and diverse game reserves and national parks Africa has to offer. Departing Johannesburg for Botswana our first stop is the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, which provides 4300 hectares of prime habitat for the dwindling rhino population. Driving onwards through the Kalahari, we head to the wetland of the Okavango Delta and leave behind our vehicles to be gently poled along the water systems of the Okavango Delta in a traditional Mokoro (a dug-out canoe), where we can get up close and personal with the flora and fauna before returning to our wilderness camp for the tradition of a sundowner. Moving on from the Delta we head to the Moremi Game Reserve, which was first established by the Batawana people of Ngamiland. With an abundance of wildlife you will spend each day searching for the big five under the expert eye of your guide. Upon leaving Moremi the landscape changes again as we follow Baobab trees, dotted across the glimmering saltpans of Makgadikgadi. Heading for Chobe National Park, we hope to see the largest yet sensitive of all African animals, the elephant. Famed for it's huge elephant population, Chobe is wonderful environment to view these amazing creatures. For our final stop, we trade wildlife for wild water and cross into Zimbabwe, finishing the at the ‘Smoke That Thunders', Victoria Fall to complete our African adventure.
